It was released on October 28, 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set in a fictionalized version of Los Santos and Blaine County, California and follows the life of the protagonist as they try to escape from a cult that has brainwashed them into thinking they're celebrities. The protagonist lives by four rules: no violence, no drugs, no stealing and no killing anyone not part of "the family". As such, their adventures start with escaping from the cult's campsite with minimal damage. The game features about 77 missions and is set in an open world environment. It includes several side missions, with most of them requiring the protagonist to perform tasks for one of the six main cult leaders. The game also has many Easter eggs referencing many other video games, TV shows and movies. While the majority of the game takes place in Los Santos, there are some optional areas in Blaine County where some of these Easter eggs can be found. One area in particular featuring an area called "Majestic", is based on 2012's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Gerry's room in the game is modeled after Max Payne's room in Max Payne 3. The game was announced on June 6, 2016. The development team was composed of about 300 people. The game received "mixed" reviews according to Metacritic. Video Game Talk gave the game 4/5 stars stating "GTA V's video game cousin is everything GTA V was not." Justin Davis of Destructoid gave the game 7 out of 10 praising its open world, writing and atmosphere which he said "adds up to one heck of a ride." Kyle Orland of Ars Technica praised the game for its setting saying it is "the strongest aspect of GTA 5, and it’s still great. The new characters are fantastic, and the world feels more alive than it ever has before." Phil Savage of GamesRadar+ gave the game a rating of 8/10 criticizing the poor cover-system and bugs saying "Namaste manages to refine some of GTA 5’s weaknesses, but it can’t overcome them entirely" Michael McWhertor of Polygon rated the game a 6/10 criticizing its writing saying "the writing is just as bad as in GTA V , which is a genuine disappointment. The new characters are pretty forgettable, and even Franklin has lost some of his charm".
